Author, director and producer, Hugo Latulippe has been active on the documentary-film scene for over 25 years. Well known to the general public since his participation in the Radio-Canada TV show La Course destination monde, he learned his trade at the National Film Board, in the footsteps of the masters of Québec direct cinema. In 2005 he founded the production company Esperamos, the focal point of whose projects filmed in Québec and elsewhere was “the key issues of our time.” After heading the Montreal-based firm for 12 years, he sold his shares to Groupe FairPlay so that he could devote himself to his personal projects, and took over a classified heritage building in the Lower St. Lawrence, which he turned into his headquarters and his workshop. He is one of the founding members of the first FabRégion in Canada, and he currently chairs the board of directors of Festuaire de Cacouna, a multi-arts festival that he co-founded with choreographer Paul-André Fortier and visual artist Stéphanie Robert. Films written, directed and produced by Hugo Latulippe have been selected by the most prestigious festivals, from Cannes to Hollywood by way of Sundance, and been honored with numerous distinctions, including ten or so Gémeaux awards, a Prix Jutra and some twenty international distinctions. He served as chairman of the board of the Observatoire du documentaire from 2014 to 2019. Hugo Latulippe is known for his political commitments and in particular his fervently held positions on social and ecological issues.

Since 2023, Hugo has held the position of General Director for the prestigious Festival de cinéma de la Ville de Québec (fcvq.ca).
